| Relia | New Relic | |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | $0: 500,000 units a month (a request or a log line is 1 unit), 7 days of history, 3 services, 5 uptime monitors. | $0: 100 GB of data a month, one full platform user plus unlimited basic users, and at least 8 days of retention. |
| First paid plan | Growth, $12 a month: 5 million units, 30 days of history, 10 services, 20 uptime monitors. Pro is $29. | Standard: $10 for the first full platform user, then $99 for each additional one (up to 5), plus $0.40 per GB beyond 100 GB. |
| As you grow | Over the limit, normal traffic is sampled 1 in 10 and errors are always kept; nothing is cut off. Growth and Pro can add paid use at $2 per million units, with a limit you set. | Billed by users and by GB ingested: $0.40 per GB, or $0.60 with Data Plus for up to 90 days of retention. Pro full platform users are $349 a month on an annual commitment. |
| What it watches | Requests and traces, errors, logs, database calls, servers, browser sessions, web vitals, uptime checks and AI-agent runs. | APM, infrastructure, logs, browser monitoring, session replay, synthetic checks and error tracking (Errors Inbox). |
| Uptime and status page | Uptime and synthetic checks, and a public status page kept current from Relia's own checks. | Synthetic and ping monitors. We found no hosted public status page in New Relic's docs. |
| On-call | On-call rotation with escalation, Slack mentions and PagerDuty. | Alerts to Slack, email, Teams, Jira and more; paging through integrations such as PagerDuty. |
| What the AI does | Turns what it sees into incidents written in plain words with the evidence cited, writes fix plans with a brief for your AI assistant, and checks after you deploy whether the fix worked. | New Relic AI answers questions and helps you troubleshoot your telemetry in plain language. |
| Does it change your code | No. It has no access to your repository and never opens pull requests. A rollback or restart through your deploy platform runs only after you approve it. | Through GitHub Copilot: New Relic opens a GitHub issue with the context, and Copilot's coding agent submits a draft pull request for review. |
| AI price | Included in every plan, with monthly counts: Free has 300 incident write-ups, 3 fix plans and 30 questions. | New Relic AI needs the paid Advanced Compute add-on. |
| Setup | npm install relia-sdk, then npx relia init (Python: pip install relia-sdk, then python -m relia). | A guided install, language agents, or OpenTelemetry. |
Choose New Relic if
- You want 100 GB of data a month free and one platform for every kind of telemetry.
- You have engineers who will build the dashboards, queries and alerts on top.
- You want deep APM with agents for many languages.
Choose Relia if
- You want one flat price instead of paying per user and per GB.
- You want to be told what needs you, in plain words, without building alerts first.
- You want an uptime check and a public status page in the same tool, and nothing touching your code.
Switching from New Relic
Can I run Relia next to New Relic while I decide?
Yes. Relia installs as its own SDK and removes nothing, so you can run both while you compare. If your app already runs an OpenTelemetry tracer provider, Relia adds itself to it instead of starting a second one.
How long does setup take?
About five minutes: npm install relia-sdk, then npx relia init, which signs you in, asks what to watch and writes one file. Python apps use pip install relia-sdk, then python -m relia.
Does Relia change my code or open pull requests?
No. Relia has no access to your repository and never opens pull requests. It never acts on your servers on its own either: a rollback or restart it proposes through a platform you connected runs only after an owner or admin approves it. It writes a fix plan from the incident's evidence, with a brief you can copy into your AI assistant, and after you deploy it checks live traffic to tell you whether the fix worked.
What happens when I go over my plan's units?
Nothing is cut off. Normal traffic is sampled 1 in 10 and errors are always kept. On Growth and Pro you can switch on paid extra use at $2 per million units, with a limit you set.
How soon does Relia know what normal looks like for my app?
It starts learning from the first request and builds its picture of normal from about four weeks of your own traffic.
